Jurgen Klopp says coming back to coach Liverpool is theoretically possible.

The German coach, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that rejoining the club remains a possibility. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful nine-season tenure featuring Champions League success and ending the club's long wait since 1990, has since taken on positions overseeing worldwide football with the Red Bull group and as an advisor with the German Football League.

Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments

Liverpool won the league title under Arne Slot, though countless followers holding him in high esteem would welcome the notion that he may eventually return. In a wide-ranging interview, he shared with the podcast host: “I declared I won't manage any other side on English soil. Which implies in case it's my former club...absolutely. Theoretically it’s possible.”

“At 58 years old, that means I might decide in a few years, I don’t know. Do I have to make the decision today? If so, I wouldn't return. But thank God, it's not necessary. I can just see how things unfold.”

What Would Lure Him Back?

Pressed on which situations would have to unfold to bring him back to management, Klopp admitted he isn't eager toward coming back. “It's unclear to me, I love what I do right now,” he said. “I don’t miss coaching; I don’t miss standing during downpours through long matches; No need for media briefings repeatedly each week or having 10-12 interviews each week.

“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, however, dining out alongside the squad talking freely, is pleasant. We won a lot of games thus frequently great spirits around the place. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled to illustrate.”

Praise for His Successor

Klopp was full of praise regarding Arne Slot, acknowledging his role for the tweaks which secured the championship last campaign. They've been defeated a string of losses in all competitions following significant transfers, yet he dismissed the notion that it might signal the start of a downward turn.

“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, you will all eat your words with negative comments. A remarkable prospect. [Hugo] Ekitike, excellent performer. They have a strong well-judged squad. Fans shouldn't fret about Liverpool, they will be fine.”

Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward

He shared movingly on the loss of Jota, whom he brought in during his tenure, along with the consequences for the team. The forward was killed in a car crash with his brother in July.

“How do you replace a person like him? It’s not about his footballing ability, his personality mattered. It's hard to picture the team environment without him in it. I find it difficult to discuss on this topic. It was an incredible shock for the entire squad also. Nobody at Liverpool would cite it for poor performances though it's a fact. Being in that space which he filled completely. Coping with it on a personal level is challenging. Overwhelming.”
